TN government invites public input on online gambling ban

Chennai, August 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Tamil Nadu government has asked the public to provide comments on the online gambling bill.

The government is seeking input from stakeholders, including parents, students, teachers, young people, psychologists, political leaders and online game providers, before Friday.

The state government said in a statement on Monday that all political leaders, psychologists and social activists have cited the negative impacts of online games on people’s lives. Critics also pointed out that several people, including women, were committing suicide due to online gaming addiction and were unable to pay the huge debts they incurred by playing the games without restraint.

It can be noted that Tamil Nadu has seen 20 deaths in the recent past due to increasing debts caused by the loss of online games including rummy.

The Tamil Nadu government had formed a panel headed by Justice (rtd) K. Chandru to provide recommendations on the new online gambling legislation. The state government will consider the report of the Justice Chandru committee after getting input from stakeholders.

In the statement, the state government said the general public can provide information to [email protected] by Friday. Organizations wishing to meet personally with the authorities concerned must make the request before Tuesday 5:00 p.m. These organizations will be allocated time slots and their consultation will start from Thursday and the organizations will only be allowed to meet with the relevant authorities after booking their time slots.
